James L. Hayes MBA & Co., Inc. is a family owned and operated accounting practice started by James Hayes in 2005 while he was studying accounting and finance at Pace University. Since then Mr. Hayes has been juggling the development of his firm with school, full-time work for other accountants and raising his family. During the past few years Mr. Hayes began concentrating his efforts on building his own practice and is now on Main Street in Brewster, NY.
While Mr. Hayes began his own firm in 2005 his roots in accounting go back to his childhood when his father was an accountant. James worked for his father on a part-time basis learning the nuts and bolts of the accounting profession. At the same time Mr. Hayes started and grew his own landscaping and snow removal business which he operated by himself including the bookkeeping, payroll and tax compliance reporting functions. Mr. Hayes sold the landscaping business to pursue other professional endeavors which brought him back to school in the spring of 2003 when he began his study of accounting and finance at Pace University. While his family grew Mr. Hayes spent long nights and weekends in the library at Pace University and graduated with honors and his MBA in Accounting and Finance in 2007.
Mr. Hayes did not stop there he spent the next two years pursuing a master’s degree in taxation at Pace University. During his years of full-time study Mr. Hayes worked full-time for accounting firms of varying size and even worked in the Financial Crimes Bureau of The New York County District Attorney’s Office where he learned the basics and advanced methods of forensic accounting.
Mr. Hayes is about a lot more than just accounting. Mr. Hayes is a Firefighter and Paramedic having began his career in emergency services in 1990 with the Armonk Fire Department and currently serving in the Brewster Fire Department.
